A friend of mine lost her son last weekend. My heart is just broken for her. There really aren't words for the sorrow I am feeling for the family. After the funeral, my friend took my hands, looked in my eyes and spoke words that jarred me and set me on a quest to follow her directions exactly. She said these words: No matter what they do or how much your boys might drive you crazy or what wild trouble they may get into as teenagers, get on your knees every day and thank God you got to spend one more day with them.
So boys, here is what I could do if I knew I had just one more day with you.
Hold you.
Squeeze you tight.
Tell you I love you.
Tickle you.
Snuggle with you.
Fly kites.
Sing songs.
Skip rocks.
Pick flowers.
Tell you I love you.
Play outside.
Give you a bubble bath.
Breathe in your smell.
Hold your sticky little hands in mine.
Bake cookies.
Tell you I love you.
Take photographs.
Read books with you both on my lap.
Run through open fields in the warm sun.
Memorize your faces.
Soak up your laughter.
Pray with you.
I'm going to make every day special and worthwhile boys. And I am going to get down on my knees and offer up thanks and praise for you two - my most unmerited blessings. I love you both and my life has never been so wonderful all because I am your Momma.

I cannot even imagine what your friend is going through. She is definitely in my prayers. Puts things in to perspective.
Lauren, thank you for your words on behalf of your dear, precious friend. Even thought mine are grown....like you said my children are my unmerited blessings. But followed by precious grandbabies is a joy only to be imagined. My prayers for your friend and her family. Enjoy those babies for they are not babies for long. You make me proud to call you my niece. I love you.
